Online Service

This Wednesday night August 5th, at 7:00pm est we will be having an on-line service.

As you may remember a few weeks ago we hijacked the service from Marty, Well this is the message he didn’t get to preach complete with our rockin worship band.

We would love to have you join us.  Also we would love to have your friends join us.  I have created a link that should help you connect your computer to your tv.  This way you can invite your friends and neighbors over and have a viewing party.  A few drinks, a few snacks, a few friends.  We do it for the Superbowl why not for church?

The link to setup your computer to tv connection is…

The link to our service is the same as always…

I hope to see you all there… Is the internet great?

Anticipation

Christmas morning for a 6 year old is one of the most amazing times.  They just can’t wait to bust into the room and see all of the wonderful things laid out for them.  The Christmas lights twinkling, a new bike half hidden by the tree, all sorts of colorful paper and odd shaped packages.  It’s almost too much excitement for there little hearts and heads to comprehend.

At FC we want our guests and those that call FC home, to have that same level of excitement on Sunday mornings.  One of the ways we try to accomplish this is probably one of the same ways your parents built that level of anticipation on Christmas morning.  Simply put we don’t let you in the room until we are ready.

There are many things that go on “behind the scenes” to make our Sunday morning services happen.  Most of them are not glamorous, they are often mundane and tedious.  That is why they are “behind the scenes.”  But all of the “little” things add up to what we feel/hope is an amazing experience.

The other reason (and probably the more important reason) is that we want you folks to have a time of “fellowship” before the service starts at FELLOWSHIP church.  Call us radical but we think it’s important.  That time in the foyer is designed to let you connect with your friends over a cup of coffee, and a bagelor two.  It is also a time to meet our guests and to help them feel welcomed.  I know that can be intimidating and we won’t really get into that here (look for a blog on that coming soon).

So this Sunday as you hang around just waiting for the doors to open so you can find “your seat” stop and look around.  Find a face that you don’t know, or a face you know but perhaps you’ve never said hi.  And do just that.  Say hi.  Then dream about the shiny new bike or the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.  Or better yet the way that you will connect with God in a new way.

Mmm Coffee

As some of you know each week Panera Bread donates all of the pastry and bagels that we enjoy.  The only part of me that doesn’t enjoy this is the part that has too look at the number on the scale.  Who’s with me?

Well I have been investigating a new source for our coffee at the FC.  In doing so I came across 963 Coffee.  The work these guys do is awesome.  Check them out and some of the other 963 missions.  Won’t it be cool to know that each sip of coffee you take at FC will aide in a child across the world sipping freash clean water?

superbowl blues

As I write this Plaxico Burress is crying on t.v. after winning the Superbowl.  ;-(

As I watched yet another Manning march down the field on my NE Patriots I realized that our players were out of position.   A missed interception by Samuel, a missed tackle by Randell Gay, a blown coverage by Hobbs.  All missed opportunities, and with it the chance to make history.  On a few occasions this was due to the players easing up thinking the play was over and that someone else had done the job.

I think about the “first impressions” ministries at Fellowship church, and I ask “are we missing our assignments.”  The food is good, the coffee is good, and even the conversation is good.  But are lives being changed, and are we accomplishing our goal of “leading people in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ?”

We can’t sit back and think that someone else will welcome our guests, or show them around.  Or that because we smiled and gave the upward nod of recognition. or even a barely audible hello that we have meet our goal.  We need to view the foyer of FC as a mission field.  We must come each Sunday expecting that God will use us, and be willing to be used.

It’s not enough to just show up.  We must pray that God will put us in the position to succeed and “play through the whistle.”

This is NOT a reprimand of our first impressions team members!  Let me make that clear.  This is meant to rally our team and those of us that call Fellowship church in Holden our home.  The Patriots blew some opportunities and for them the season is over.  They will be playing golf next week thinking what if.  We have a game next week.  Our season doesn’t end.  We need to look for opportunities to serve and welcome our guests.  I don’t want to leave on Sunday saying what if.  If that means that we don’t get to chat with our friends or we loose out on the last chocolate danish that’s fine.  We should be concerned with those we are trying to reach more than those we are trying to keep.
